Marlow D. Scherbenske

The funeral for Marlow Scherbenske, Lehr, ND will be Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Zion United Methodist Church, Lehr, ND. Visitation will be Saturday, January 4, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at the Lehr City Cemetery, Lehr, ND.

Marlow DeLane Scherbenske, was born to G.G. and Rose (Nagel) Scherbenske on November 4, 1937 at Lehr, ND. He attended Logan County Public School through the 8th grade. Marlow graduated from Lehr High School where he excelled in track and basketball. He continued his education and graduated from Jamestown College with his BS Degree in Biology and Physical Education in 1959. Marlow and Marlys Buchholz were married August 26, 1961 at Lehr United Methodist Church. They moved to Jamestown where Marlow took a teaching position at Buchanan High School. In the spring of 1962 the couple moved back to Lehr, where he began farming and ranching operation, lasting throughout his lifetime. Marlow then taught at Lehr the next two school terms. Marlow was an active member of Lehr United Methodist Church, also serving as Sunday School Superintendent for 30 plus years and Administrative Board Chairman. He also served on the Lehr School Board as a member and School Board Treasurer. He served as a 4-H Club Leader, was a lifetime member of the American Angus Assn and ND Thoroughbred Assn member. His favorite pastimes were spending time with his family, camping, fishing, hunting, riding through his pastures on his horse checking his cattle, trail riding at Medora and horse racing. He had great respect for God’s creations and showed it with his love and care of his land and livestock. His dogs Rosie and Poco, and Bushy his cat, brought him much joy. Attending his grandkids events, such as sports and High School Rodeo were very special to him. He enjoyed morning coffee at the local café.

Marlow passed on to his eternal home Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. Alexuis Medical Center, Bismarck, ND from heart surgery complications. He was 76 years old.

Marlow is survived by Marlys, his loving wife of 52 years, Lehr, ND; two sons, Marlow Jr. (Janet) Scherbenske, Rapid City, SD and Mark (Jill) Scherbenske, Lehr, ND; the pride and joy and so proud of his seven grandchildren, granddaughters, Kara and Kalli; grandsons, DeLane (Erica), Kolton, Tad, Drew and Luke; one nephew, Percy (Julie) Scherbenske, Hampton, MN along with a host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, G.G. and Rose, brother Elery and Lorna Scherbenske, father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Helen Buchholz, along with loving aunts and uncles.
